Company Profile

Fire Spec Systems offer a specialist contracting service supplying and installing the full range of “active ” and “passive ” fire protection solutions available.  We also supply and install high technology security systems .

The company is a full member of various important associations which set high standards of workmanship for the industry:

The company has shown phenomenal growth over the past five years; proof of this being our ever expanding premises  at Shell Court Mowbray to cope with the demand for extra office and store space.

In 1996 the company embarked on a policy of Black Empowerment to assist previously disadvantaged individuals employed by the group to purchase equity and share in the profits of Fire Spec Systems. Twenty five percent of the shareholding was offered and taken up by certain members.   The policy has helped in greater motivation of all staff and retention of key staff members.  Fire Spec Systems enjoys the status of a level 4 BEE Contributor .

In the year, 2005 Fire Spec Systems saw the opportunity for expansion into a new developing market of “Passive ” fire protection .  This move would make Fire Spec Systems the only company to offer a full range of both “active ” and “passive ” fire safety solutions.  After months of research both locally and overseas we joined forces with the largest “passive ” fire protection company in Ireland.  The Irish group Fireseal now enjoys a financial interest in the South African market with Fire Spec Systems as its distributor of products and systems.  A separate division has been set up to handle all “passive ” fire stopping solutions.

Fire Spec Systems is the South African agent for both Nullifire and Envirograf ’s full range of passive fire stopping products. We are also approved installers for Pyrocote and mandoval vermiculite fire stopping systems.

Besides the normal day to day installation of fire systems , Fire Spec Systems specialises in offering a complete package of service to major clients.  This includes dedicated teams who service, maintain and repair all systems relating to the scope of work of all electronic systems installed by ourselves or others.  The turnaround time is a maximum of two hours and this service is 24/7.

In order to offer this kind of service dedicated teams with transport and stocks are used. The costs of these services are negotiable and covered by an annual charge.  In major complexes such as University of Cape Town, security of students is of the utmost importance and CCTV cameras monitor most walkways on every campus.  Our technicians maintain such systems which must be fully operational at all times.

Gas dumping systems are being upgraded every year with new products which are more efficient and ozone friendly.  This is a specialist type of work and requires technicians with experience in this regard we employ technicians with over 20 years experience.  Fire Spec Systems recently installed a gas dumping system at Caltex Refinery, Milnerton.  This system replaces the old Halon gas and protects the nerve centre of Caltex, the computer network.

Large x- ray units are now becoming part of major security systems. An upgrade by SA Navy at Simonstown of its security system recently included the supply and installation of personnel x-ray units as well as baggage units. X ray units now form part of our security systems offered to clients with critical areas of protection.

The Passive fire protection department specialises in the supply and application of intumescent coating to structural steel, having recently completed the largest single application in South Africa, at Loch Logon in Bloemfontein. The department also supplies and installs Firespec fireboard , a fibrous board for drywall and ceiling applications, which offers a two hour rating. They also undertake general firestopping and compartmentation within buildings.

The upgrading of fire doors is becoming essential with new government legislation and Fire Spec Systems have set up a spray booth in their premises to cater for this specialised work.

Public address systems are an essential part of a good evacuation system.  Controlled evacuation is essential in a fire situation in all building.  Working closely with suppliers, Fire Spec Systems have installed/upgraded major systems at Metropolitan

Life, Foreshore, and their head office at Bellville.  Included in the specialisation of public address is white sound for large open plan office complexes.  Fire Spec Systems have the technical knowledge to install and maintain this specialised sound masking system.
