PROJECTS – FIRE SYSTEMS

The Jack Nicholas “Pearl Valley” Country Club.  FireSpec Systems contract was to supply and install the fire detection system , public address , intruder alarm , CCTV and access control .  The work at this prestigious complex was carried out over a period of 12 months under the consulting firm of Tricon.

The “Old Revenue Offices” 90 Plein Street Cape Town were upgraded to accommodate numerous government departments.  Contracted to Murray & Roberts, Fire Spec Systems supplied and installed a new fully addressable detection and evacuation system linked to two large gas dumping systems . Certain areas of access control were also installed.  The work was overseen by the consulting firm of BMDS.

Loch Logon, Bloemfontein. FireSpec Systems Passive division was contracted to supply and apply intumescent coating to structural steel. This is the largest single application of intumescent coatin in South Africa, totalling approximately 36000m² of steel. FireSpec completed the contract in under six weeks.

PROJECTS - SECURITY

Major Security Projects installed by Fire Spec Security Systems fall into two categories.  Firstly, an entirely new system usually installed in new premises under construction and secondly an overall upgrade of an existing security system.  Major projects are usually installed and contracted with the builder or direct with a consulting engineer.

Our projects cover all aspects of Building Security, Personnel Security and Assets Security.  A good example of this is the recently completed Jack Nicholas “Pearl Valley Country Club.”  The building worth millions needed fire protection and as a result an early warning fire detection system was installed in all areas of the club house.  This system protects the building, the personnel and assets of the club.  A public address system is linked to the fire alarm for evacuation, general announcements and background music.

As the club is exclusive (mainly members), an access control system monitors and controls who has access to which areas.

Security is of utmost importance and CCTV cameras are strategically positioned and monitored by staff trained to watch for unknown  or unwanted persons. Personnel and member protection is of the utmost importance.

A gas discharge system linked to the fire alarm protects valuable files and work records.  Finally, an intruder alarm protects assets in the building after hours and is linked to armed response.

A good example of a major project upgrade was the installation carried out by Fire Spec Systems at the Old Revenue offices, 90 Plein Str Cape Town with Murray & Roberts the main contractor. This upgrade of building and systems was to accommodate numerous government departments and parliament offices.  The upgrade included a large fire alarm system, evacuation and public address , two large gas discharge systems covering record filing rooms on two floors.

The access control system was upgraded to allow general access and exclusive access to certain high risk areas.  This project was overseen by the consulting firm of BMDS Cape Town.

Hospitals require systems designed to protect and evacuate patients as a priority and allow for swift evacuation of the affected area of the building.  Outdated systems are upgraded with the latest addressable early warning systems available.  The fire system includes safety lighting in the event of a power failure for quick and controlled evacuation.
